This page outlines the privacy policy for current digital practices of the movement.

Outline of Data Practices for Website (Portal)

  • The website will be protected by HTTPS to encrypt data transmitted to and from the site.

  • To help ensure user privacy, the website does not use cookies, analytics, or other tracking technologies, except where other tools are embedded that may set their own cookies or use other tracking technologies, such as forms and events calendars.

  • We will not use a user’s information for other purposes that the user does not authorize.

  • The organizations that have access to the site data include Public Knowledge, Creative Commons, and our website vendor, Objectively. We will not share, rent, or sell information collected from this site with anyone outside of these organizations, except in the manner described when the user provides their information.

  • The organizations that have access to the site content management system are Public Knowledge, Creative Commons, and our website vendor, Objectively.

  • As the website is further developed, this privacy policy will be further developed consistent with these principles.

Outline of Data Practices for Mailing List

  • The list will be maintained through a third party service.

  • The organizations that will have access to mailing list data are Public Knowledge and Creative Commons.

  • We will not add users to our mailing list without their explicit consent, which will be obtained via a form on the website.

  • Users will not be placed on other mailing lists operated by the Organizing Partners or any other affiliated groups as a result of consenting to be on the mailing list.

  • Within the management tools we use, we will only store a person’s first name, last name, and email address.

  • We will promptly comply with any requests to delete or edit data.

  • There will be an option to opt out of communications in every email we send.

Outline of Data Practices for Movement Listserve

  • The listserve will be maintained through Google Groups.

  • List members will have permission to view and communicate with other members of the list via Google Groups.

  • We will not add users to our listserve without their explicit consent. This will be done via a Google Form. Data collected via this form will only be used by Public Knowledge, Creative Commons, and other Organizing Partners to populate the Google Group.

  • We will not rent, sell, or share user information with anyone outside of the list.

  • Within Google Groups, we will only store a user’s first name, last name, email address, organization, and title.

  • We will promptly comply with any requests to delete or edit data.

  • Users will not be placed on other listserves owned by the Organizing Partners or any other affiliated groups as a result of consenting to be on the Movement for a Better Internet listserve.
